We are so thrilled to share the news about Disney+, Disney’s new streaming service scheduled to launch in the U.S. in late 2019. This week, Disney CEO and Chairman, Bob Iger made some very special announcements about the new streaming service, and we’re just so excited about it all.
As a mom of two boys (one who is a Star Wars superfan), we are particularly excited that LucasFilm is developing a new Star Wars live-action series for Disney+. The series will be based on Rebel spy, Cassian Andor of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – with Diego Luna reprising his role. The story itself will take place before the events of Rogue One – and sounds like it will be full of action-packed, intergalactic adventure! My little Star Wars fan and I will be anxiously awaiting the official series release date.
And there’s more from our favorite galaxy far, far away: LucasFilm also revealed that Jon Favreau will write and executive produce The Mandalorian, another live-action series, the story of which is set after the First Order comes to be. The show is presently in production with a group of notable directors like Deborah Chow (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates) and Taika Waititi (Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok). Is anyone else happy-dancing in excitement right now?
Speaking of excitement, Marvel will also be releasing a live-action series based on fan-favorite super villain, the god of Mischief himself, Loki. Watch your back, Thor!
And rounding things out, we are so happy that the streaming service will also be home to new stories centered around beloved classics like Disney•Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. and Disney Channel’s High School Musical (cue this mama singing her favorite High School Musical ballad!) Disney+ will have something for every member of your family, and we are so excited for 2019!
