Through February 18th, Disney California Adventure is hosting Lunar New Year festivities. Jack, my mother, and I joined our friends to experience the Lunar New Year celebration and ring in the “Year of the Dog.” In true Disney fashion, there were plenty of exciting things to see and do including live performances, arts and crafts, and even fireworks!

Our first stop of the day was, of course, for food. There were three marketplace booths to choose from, offering Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cuisines. We enjoyed a big Purple Sweet Potato Macaron (the biggest one we’ve ever seen!)

We also snacked on delicious shrimp skewers while walking to our next destination: a meet and greet with Pluto and friends! Both Jack and his friend Leilani loved giving Pluto a big hug and posing for a few photos.

We walked by the complimentary face painting booth, but a show featuring one of our favorite Disney Princesses was only a few minutes away from starting. We hustled along to see Mulan host the Lunar New Year Procession and it was wonderful! There were colorful performers, beautiful Chinese umbrella dancers and, of course, Goofy was there too—it was truly a must-see!

After that we headed off to a delicious lunch at the Paradise Garden Grill —I had the Banh Mi and Jack ate almost an entire order of the Galbi on his own. The table that we were seated at was under full shade and  was located right near the entrance of the Processions, so we were actually able to catch another glimpse of the show.

After a few more hours in the sun, we made our way over to a shady area where we stumbled upon the Festive Crafts and Activities. We had a blast making paper lanterns, purchasing custom Chinese calligraphy art, and adding our wishes to the Lucky Wishing Wall.

Next on the itinerary: the GuGu Drum Group! We were all mesmerized by the vibrant drummers and storytellers that told the stories of ancient Chinese proverbs.

We had the best time and I can’t wait to relive these memories with my son for years to come.
