Of all the parties to host, baby showers are the most fun! You get to plan out all the little details to celebrate both the new parents and their baby on the way. One of the best themes for this special day? Mickey Mouse! He’s such a nostalgic character that instantly makes us think of happy childhood memories, so it seems fitting to celebrate the coming of a new baby with the classic icon.

Mickey Diaper Cake

A diaper cake makes the perfect shower gift because it’s something that you know the new parents will need! Added bonus: It’s adorable as decor for the shower, too!

We wanted to create a diaper cake that felt fresh and modern. So, we took inspiration from the cute Mickey pattern on these diapers and added some colorful flair. As an extra touch, we used a cake stand to display the craft and give it some height. Follow our step-by-step instructions to create your own!

What You’ll Need

  • 60 diapers (like these from Huggies)
  • Rubber bands
  • Paper towel roll
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Crepe paper
  • 1/4” ribbon
  • Hot glue
  • Styrofoam dome
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Cardstock
  • Protractor
  • Pencil
  • Toothpicks

How to Make It

  1. Lightly roll a diaper, band side in, and secure with a rubber band. Continue rolling the diapers until you have about 60.
  2. Cut a leftover paper towel roll to the height of two diaper tiers. Then place it in the center of the cake stand and add diapers around it until you reach the desired size. Secure the first tier of diapers with a larger rubber band.
  3. Begin on the second tier, placing diapers on top of the first and then securing with a large rubber band.

  4. Measure the length of both tiers and cut two pieces of crepe paper to size. Fold each piece lengthwise and crimp the top by gently pulling with your fingers.

  5. Cut two pieces of ribbon the same length as the crepe paper. Secure the ribbon to the crepe paper with glue. Then attach the ribbon and crepe paper to the bottom of each diaper tier.
  6. Paint your Styrofoam dome and let dry. Apply a second coat if necessary, and let dry completely.
  7. Using a protractor, draw two 5 5/8” circles on matching colored cardstock, then cut out.

  8. Attach your ears to toothpicks using glue. Stick the ears into the Styrofoam dome and you’re done!

Mickey Rosette Backdrop

Any time you throw a party, a backdrop is a must! It makes the space feel more festive and encourages guests to snap photos.

This paper rosette backdrop is no exception—it’s easy to create and makes a big impact!

What You’ll Need

  • Colorful cardstock (use a range of paper sizes)
  • Scissors
  • Bone folder (optional)
  • Twine
  • Stapler
  • Hot glue
  • Painter’s tape

How to Make It

  1. Measure and cut two rectangular sheets of cardstock so that the length is twice the width. Accordion fold both sheets of cardstock. We used a bone folder to score the fold lines to achieve clean, crisp folds.
  2. Stack the two folded cardstock segments. Knot a piece of twine around the middle point of the stack, then trim off the excess twine.

  3. Using the midpoint as a guide, join the two opposite ends of the cardstock and staple as close to the edge as possible. This will create one half of a rosette. Repeat on the other side. Then re-crease any folds that need more definition.
  4. To turn the rosette into Mickey, cut two circles out of cardstock for ears and hot glue them to the back of the rosette. Repeat to create more Mickey rosettes.

  5. To hang, tape the Mickey shapes to the wall. Use as decor and a photo backdrop!

Serves: 6

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 Cups graham cracker crumbs (use a rolling pin to crumble in a bag)
  • 1/4 Cup sugar
  • 1/3 Cup butter, melted
  • 20-30 Oz. fresh strawberries
  • 4 8-Oz. packages cream cheese
  • 1 Cup sugar, plus more to taste
  • 1 1/2 Tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • Mickey cookie cutter

Directions:

  1. Start with the crust. In a 9×13” pan, combine graham cracker crumbs and sugar. Once blended, add melted butter. Consistency should be the same as damp sand (sticks together when patted down, but still able to crumble).
  2. Spread and press down mixture evenly until solid along the bottom of the pan.

  3. Let chill in the freezer for 5-10 minutes (or bake at 350° F for 5-10 minutes) to set the crust.
  4. Now start on the filling. Place strawberries in a small pot and cook over low-medium heat. Add in sugar to taste, if desired. Stir occasionally until fruit is completely cooked (about 30 minutes).
  5. Pour contents into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Set aside to cool.
  6. Combine cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Mix in eggs until fully combined and all lumps are smoothed. Fold in strawberry purée (about a cup) until fully combined. Pour mixture into pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake at 350° F for about 30-40 minutes, until sides have started to darken and center is semi-firm. Let cool. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
  8. Use a Mickey cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Garnish with strawberries. Serve chilled.

Mickey Guest Book Banner

This craft acts as both an activity and decor for the shower! First, create the banner—adding a cute saying (like Mickey’s signature phrase “oh, boy!”), the baby’s name, or a congratulatory word.
