  • Paintbrushes
  • Colorful paint
  • String of LED lights
  • Hot glue
  • Twist tie or wire (optional)

  2. Place the Mickey-shaped cardboard onto another piece of cardboard and trace around it. Then draw another Mickey shape that’s about 1 1/2″ wider. This will be the border around the original shape. Cut out the border, then the middle.
  3. Paint the original Mickey shape with the chalkboard paint. Let one coat dry completely, apply a second, then let it sit overnight before writing on it with chalk.

  4. Paint the border with fun stripes! Then use narrow scissors to poke holes evenly spaced around the border (to hold the lights).

  5. Find the end of the string of lights and starting at the bottom, poke the lights through the holes. This way, when you get all the way around, the extra string will be at the bottom and you can easily tuck it behind the sign when displayed.

  6. Cut out a long rectangle from the cardboard and glue one end to the back of the original Mickey shape at a slight angle. This will be your stand. Let it dry.
  7. Stand it up, then trim the end of the stand until it’s resting at your preferred angle.
  8. Place the border with lights onto the Mickey with the stand and glue it in place. Let it dry.

  9. You can use wire or a twist tie to pull back extra wire from the lights if you need to.
  10. Once the chalkboard paint has set overnight, write your message with chalk!

  4. To make the icing, add egg whites to a large bowl. Add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing thoroughly in-between each cup. Then mix in the vanilla.
  5. Place the icing into a zip-top bag and cut a tiny hole in one corner. This will be your piping bag!
  6. Pipe an outline around each cookie, then fill it in. Let the icing set for about 10 minutes.
  7. Use 4 small bowls to mix your colors. Add food coloring and about 1 teaspoon of water to each. Then mix well.
  8. Take the paintbrush and dip it into the colored water, then flick it onto the cookies. You can also use a toothpick to dip into the colored water and dot onto the cookies to make more precise spots. Then let the cookies dry.
