In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, in theaters now, there’s a new droid in the universe and his name is D-O! We couldn’t wait to zoom into the kitchen and create a cookie version. Style with edible “pebbles” and “plants” for a treat that’s truly out of this world!
- 1 round sandwich cookie
- 1 sugar cone
- 1 pretzel stick
- 1 cup white candy melts, melted
- 1 Tbsp black candy melts
- 1 black licorice twist
- 1/4 cup black royal icing, in piping bag fitted with #3 tip
- 6 small red dot sprinkles
- 1/4 cup white frosting
- 1/4 cup green royal icing, in piping bag fitted with #3 tip
- Black edible marker
- 1 Tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 cup cut-out cookie dough
All cutting and baking should be done by an adult.
Coat 1 sandwich cookie in white candy melts and allow to dry. Use a serrated knife to cut two inches off of the end of a sugar cone. Cut a 1/4-inch off of the tip. Coat the middle cut cone piece in white candy melts and allow to dry.
Cut a 1/2-inch off of a pretzel stick. Coat it in white candy melts and allow to dry. Spoon 2 Tbsp of the white melts into a small bowl, then mix in the black candy melts to create gray. Coat the rest of pretzel in this gray candy melt mixture and allow to dry.
Cut a 1/4-inch piece off from the length of a licorice twist. To create D-O’s antenna, pipe out 3 one-inch long strands of black royal icing onto parchment paper. To create his lights, pipe out a one-inch thick line of black royal icing onto parchment paper. Attach 6 small red dot sprinkles as lights. Allow to dry.
Fill the dipped cone piece with white frosting. Insert three of the black royal icing strands into the white frosting as antenna. Put 2 Tbsp of green royal icing in a small bowl. Mix in 1 tsp of water. Dip the narrow end of the cone in the icing and allow to dry.
Create D-O’s wheel details on the dipped cookie with green icing, black icing and edible black marker. Allow to dry. Brush cocoa powder spots onto different areas of D-O’s cone head and wheel to create a rustic, worn look.
Roll out the cookie dough to a 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out a large three-inch round, a 1/2-inch by 1/4-inch rectangle and a small plant shape from the dough. Bake at 350F until a light golden brown, then cool.
Mix any remaining white frosting with 2 tsp of cocoa powder to create tan colored frosting. Spread this onto the three-inch round cookie. Dip the rectangle in white candy melts and allow to dry. Mix 1 tsp of cocoa powder into the thinned green royal icing from Step 4. Dip the front of plant cookie in this icing, then allow to dry.
Upright, place the decorated sandwich cookie onto the large frosted cookie like a wheel. Apply small dabs of any remaining white candy melts to build D-O from the bottom up. Place the gray pretzel piece on last. Place the plant cookie to the side of D-O. Crumble any undipped sugar cone to create “sand pebbles” for sprinkling around the plant cookie.
