Ingredients

  • Dog Treat Ingredients:
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • ¼ cup all-natural creamy peanut butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • Frosting Ingredients:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1 egg white
  • Gel food coloring in black, brown, red, and pink

Helpful Tip

This recipe is intended for dogs, not humans. Please consult with your veterinarian before introducing any new foods into your dog’s diet.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350˚F.

  2. Using a mixer, beat together the pumpkin, peanut butter, and eggs.

  3. Once combined, add in flour, a half cup at a time. Mix together until you have a non-sticky dough.

  4. Sprinkle some flour on a surface and roll out your dough so that it’s 1/3-inch thick.

  5. Use a knife to cut the shape of Dug from your dough. Repeat.

  6. Place cookies on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20 minutes.

  7. Remove from oven and allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating.

  8. Place frosting ingredients in a mixer and beat on high until you have a frosting consistency. Separate into four bowls, two medium-sized bowls and two small bowls.

  9. Add brown food coloring to one of the larger bowls and combine. For the other larger bowl, add in black food coloring and combine.

  10. Put red food coloring in one of the smaller bowls, and pink food coloring in the other. To help guide you in decorating Dug, you can use the details on the template as a model.

  11. Place some of your brown frosting in a piping bag, and use it to outline the shape of Dug’s collar as well as the details of his face (ears, mouth).

  12. Add a small amount of water to your remaining brown frosting to make it a thinner consistency, place in a piping bag, and use it to flood the inside of the collar you outlined.

  13. Place some your black frosting in a piping bag, and use it to outline the shape of Dug’s nose, the black parts of his mouth, and use it to also draw his eyes.

  14. Add a small amount of water to your remaining black frosting to make a thinner consistency, place in a piping bag, and use it to fill the inside of his nose.

  15. Add some water to your pink frosting to make it thinner, and place in a piping bag, and flood in the remaining spot in Dug’s mouth, which will be his tongue!

  16. No need to add water to your red frosting — you want this to be thick, since you’ll use it just for a red dot on his collar.

  17. And you’re done! The perfect Dug dog treat to give your dog for a special day!
