Mushu knew that in order for Mulan to perform well as a soldier she would need to start the day with a hearty breakfast. When she peered into the bowl of porridge he offered, she found a face comprised of fried egg eyes and a bacon strip mouth smiling up at her. Here’s how you, too, can transform a bowl of pudding into a treat that will result in smiles all around.
Be sure to catch Mulan when it airs as part of Freeform’s Funday Weekend, Saturday, April 22, at 11:55 p.m. and again on Sunday, April 23, at 9:55 p.m.
- Vanilla or butterscotch pudding
- A marshmallow
- Confectioner’s sugar
- Waxed paper
- 2 yellow candies
- A caramel candy
Spoon a serving of pudding into a medium-size bowl and smooth the surface.
Make a pair of “fried egg eyes” by slicing a marshmallow in half and sprinkling confectioner’s sugar on the sticky sides. Sandwich the marshmallow halves between two pieces of waxed paper and use the rolling pin to flatten them to about a 1/4-inch thickness. Set the flattened marshmallows atop the pudding where the eyes go. Then top each marshmallow with a yellow M&M placed printed side down.
To create a “bacon strip mouth,” microwave the Bulls Eye or other caramel candy for up to 6 seconds to slightly soften it. Then, flatten the candy between waxed paper as you did the marshmallow pieces, rolling it into a strip about 4 inches long and 3/4 inch wide. Place the bacon strip atop the pudding, curving it slightly into a smile.
