WALL•E Galaxy Cake

  • CAKE:
  • 1 box vanilla cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • Gel color (blue, purple, pink, teal)
  • 2 pounds butter
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Gel color (blue, purple, pink, teal, black, white)

  1. Combine cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs in a bowl and mix.

  2. Separate cake batter into 4 bowls. Add a few drops of purple, blue, pink, and teal gel color to each bowl.

  3. Pour each color of cake batter into a large dome-shaped cake mold. Mix gently to swirl the colors.

  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.

  5. To prepare buttercream frosting, combine butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Mix until fluffy and creamy. Separate into 5 bowls. Add a few drops of blue, purple, pink, teal, and black gel color into each bowl.

  6. Slice dome-shaped cake into three layers. Use a small amount of buttercream to place the first layer on a cake board. Layer with buttercream frosting and add the next layer of cake. Layer with buttercream frosting once more and add the top layer of the cake. Crumb coat the entire cake.

  7. Begin adding small amounts of buttercream frosting around the cake. Use a spatula to artfully spread the frosting across the cake. See how we did it in the video above.

  8. Use a small paintbrush to lightly sprinkle white gel color as the stars in the sky.

  9. Top your cake with WALL-E and EVE by downloading the printable PDF template above. Be sure to print onto cardstock paper and attach to floral wire for a gravity-free effect!
